Theravagga Therasutta “Pañcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu bahujanaahitāya paṭipanno hoti bahujanaasukhāya bahuno janassa anatthāya ahitāya dukkhāya devamanussānaṁ. Katamehi pañcahi?

Disciples, a senior disciple endowed with five qualities is practicing for the harm, discomfort, and suffering of many people, for the harm and suffering of devas and humans.

What five?

He is a senior disciple, long gone forth;

He is well-known, famous, with a large following of householders and renunciants;

Thero hoti rattaññū cirapabbajito; ñāto hoti yasassī sagahaṭṭhapabbajitānaṁ bahujanaparivāro; lābhī hoti cīvarapiṇḍapātasenāsanagilānappaccayabhesajjaparikkhārānaṁ; bahussuto hoti sutadharo sutasannicayo, ye te dhammā ādikalyāṇā majjhekalyāṇā pariyosānakalyāṇā sātthaṁ sabyañjanaṁ kevalaparipuṇṇaṁ parisuddhaṁ brahmacariyaṁ abhivadanti, tathārūpāssa dhammā bahussutā honti dhātā vacasā paricitā manasānupekkhitā diṭṭhiyā appaṭividdhā; micchādiṭṭhiko hoti viparītadassano, so bahujanaṁ saddhammā vuṭṭhāpetvā asaddhamme patiṭṭhāpeti.

He is a recipient of robes, alms food, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick;

He is learned, a bearer of the teachings, a hoarder of the teachings, those teachings that are good in the beginning, good in the middle, good in the end, with the right meaning and phrasing, which proclaim the perfectly complete and pure spiritual life.

Such teachings are well-learned by him, remembered, recited verbally, mentally examined, and penetrated by view;

He has wrong view, a distorted perspective, and he establishes many people in what is not the true teaching, removing them from the true teaching.

Thero bhikkhu rattaññū cirapabbajito itipissa diṭṭhānugatiṁ āpajjanti, ñāto thero bhikkhu yasassī sagahaṭṭhapabbajitānaṁ bahujanaparivāro itipissa diṭṭhānugatiṁ āpajjanti, lābhī thero bhikkhu cīvarapiṇḍapātasenāsanagilānappaccayabhesajjaparikkhārānaṁ itipissa diṭṭhānugatiṁ āpajjanti, bahussuto thero bhikkhu sutadharo sutasannicayo itipissa diṭṭhānugatiṁ āpajjanti.

A senior disciple who is long gone forth, thus they follow his view; a well-known senior disciple, famous, with a large following of householders and renunciants, thus they follow his view; a recipient of robes, alms food, lodgings, and medicinal requisites for the sick, thus they follow his view; a learned senior disciple, a bearer of the teachings, a hoarder of the teachings, thus they follow his view.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi dhammehi samannāgato thero bhikkhu bahujanaahitāya paṭipanno hoti bahujanaasukhāya bahuno janassa anatthāya ahitāya dukkhāya devamanussānaṁ.
