Katamañca, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānaṁ?

And what is the dwelling of mindfulness?

Here a disciple dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away craving and aversion for the world; dwells contemplating feelings in feelings ...; dwells contemplating mind in mind ...; dwells contemplating phenomena in phenomena, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away craving and aversion for the world.

Idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānaṁ.

This is called the dwelling of mindfulness.

Katamā ca, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānabhāvanā?

And what is the development of the dwelling of mindfulness?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu samudayadhammānupassī kāyasmiṁ viharati, vayadhammānupassī kāyasmiṁ viharati, samudayavayadhammānupassī kāyasmiṁ viharati, ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ.

Here a disciple dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in the body, dwells contemplating the vanishing phenomena in the body, dwells contemplating the arising and vanishing phenomena in the body, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away craving and aversion for the world.

Samudayadhammānupassī vedanāsu viharati …pe… samudayadhammānupassī citte viharati …pe… samudayadhammānupassī dhammesu viharati, vayadhammānupassī dhammesu viharati, samudayavayadhammānupassī dhammesu viharati, ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ.

Dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in feelings ...; dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in mind ...; dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in phenomena, dwells contemplating the vanishing phenomena in phenomena, dwells contemplating the arising and vanishing phenomena in phenomena, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away craving and aversion for the world.

Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānabhāvanā.

This is called the development of the dwelling of mindfulness.

Katamā ca, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānabhāvanāgāminī paṭipadā?

And what is the path leading to the development of the dwelling of mindfulness?

Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṁ— sammādiṭṭhi, sammāsaṅkappo, sammāvācā, sammākammanto, sammāājīvo, sammāvāyāmo, sammāsati, sammāsamādhi.

It is just this noble eightfold path, that is to say: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration.

Ayaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, satipaṭṭhānabhāvanāgāminī paṭipadā”ti. Dasamaṁ. Ananussutavaggo catuttho. Tassuddānaṁ Ananussutaṁ virāgo, viraddho bhāvanā sati; Aññā chandaṁ pariññāya, bhāvanā vibhaṅgena cāti.
