AN8.53 — Saṅkhittasutta

At one time, the Blessed One was staying in Vesālī, in the Great Wood, at the Hall with the Peaked Roof. Then Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, and stood to one side. Standing to one side, Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī said to the Blessed One:

Venerable sir, it would be good if the Blessed One would teach me the Dhamma in brief, so that having heard the Blessed Ones Dhamma, I may dwell alone, withdrawn, diligent, ardent, and resolute.

Gotamī, you should understand those things that lead to passion, not to dispassion; to bondage, not to detachment; to accumulation, not to diminishment; to great desires, not to few desires; to discontent, not to contentment; to association, not to seclusion; to laziness, not to arousal of energy; to being difficult to support, not to being easy to support. You should definitely consider: This is not the Dhamma, this is not the discipline, this is not the Teachers instruction.
