SN35.68 — The Discourse on Inquiry about the World

Revered sir, the term world, world is spoken. In what way, revered sir, might there be the world or the designation of the world?

Where there is, Samiddhi, the eye, forms, eye-consciousness, phenomena to be known by eye-consciousness, there might be the world or the designation of the world... likewise...

...where there is the tongue...

...where there is the mind, mental phenomena, mind-consciousness, phenomena to be known by mind-consciousness, there might be the world or the designation of the world.

And where, Samiddhi, there is no eye, no forms, no eye-consciousness, no phenomena to be known by eye-consciousness, there, the world or the designation of the world might not be... likewise...

...where there is no tongue...

...where there is no mind, no mental phenomena, no mind-consciousness, no phenomena to be known by mind-consciousness, there, the world or the designation of the world might not be.
