SN45.7 — A Certain Disciple's Discourse at Sāvatthī.
Then a certain disciple approached the Blessed One, and after approaching, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, that disciple said to the Blessed One, Venerable sir, it is said, The removal of lust, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion. To what extent, venerable sir, is this said, the removal of lust, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion?
It is, disciple, a designation for the element of Nibbāna: the removal of lust, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion. It is called the destruction of the taints.
Having been spoken thus, that disciple said to the Blessed One, Venerable sir, it is said, the deathless, the deathless. What, venerable sir, is the deathless, and what is the path leading to the deathless?
Disciple, the destruction of lust, the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion: this is called the deathless. This very Noble Eightfold Path is the path leading to the deathless, namely, right view... right concentration.
