I will teach you the foundations of mindfulness, the development of the foundations of mindfulness, and the path leading to the development of the foundations of mindfulness.

Listen to this.

And what is the foundation of mindfulness?

Here a disciple dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away covetousness and grief for the world; dwells contemplating feelings in feelings ...; dwells contemplating mind in mind ...; dwells contemplating phenomena in phenomena, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away covetousness and grief for the world.

This is called the foundation of mindfulness.

And what is the development of the foundation of mindfulness?

Here a disciple dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in the body, dwells contemplating the vanishing phenomena in the body, dwells contemplating the arising and vanishing phenomena in the body, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away covetousness and grief for the world.

Dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in feelings ...;

dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in mind ...;

dwells contemplating the arising phenomena in phenomena, dwells contemplating the vanishing phenomena in phenomena, dwells contemplating the arising and vanishing phenomena in phenomena, ardent, fully aware, mindful, having put away covetousness and grief for the world.

This is called the development of the foundation of mindfulness.

And what is the path leading to the development of the foundation of mindfulness?

It is just this noble eightfold path, that is to say: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right concentration.

This is called the path leading to the development of the foundation of mindfulness.
